“The Wildland Firefighter Foundation’s main focus is to help the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and to assist injured firefighters and their families. We honor and acknowledge the past, present and future members of the wildland firefighting community and partner with private and interagency organizations to bring recognition to wildland firefighters.

We help maintain and grow the national monument established for our fallen. We operate a financial fund which provides critical assistance to the families of fallen and injured firefighters. We partner with private and interagency organizations to educate the public about wildland fires and promote excellence and safety in firefighting.”

As they say at the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, “May your compassion continue to spread like wildfire.”

Developed in 1911 by legendary U.S. Forest Service ranger and firefighter Ed Pulaski, the tool that now bears his name has been called “the supreme fire tool” and is nearly synonymous with wildland firefighting. Combining an axe on one end of the head and a mattock blade on the other, the Pulaski is equally effective for chopping trees and logs and for digging in hard or root-bound dirt. That, combined with its relatively light weight, makes it ideal for cutting firelines in remote areas. The Warwood Tool Pulaski Axe is made according to the time-honored Forest Service specification, with a 3-3/4 lb. head and overall head length of 13”. Unlike many imports and lesser alternatives, the head of our Pulaski is not simply “twisted” 90 degrees to form the mattock end. We take pride in hand-forging our top-quality U.S.-made tools from U.S.-sourced steel in our West Virginia shop the same way they’ve been made since 1854. It is to recognize the launch of this new product, and to honor those who have been wounded or killed while defending our great wilderness and homes that we decided to create this truly unique, collector-grade tool. 20% of this auction's final selling price will be directly donated to our friends at the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.
